Decided to start a small reef, here's a few pictures of what I have. Most of it is just extra gear I've acquired over the years on the freshwater side of the hobby.

By the way are you planning on using a ato (auto top off) system? Small tanks can have their levels fluctuate drastically and stability is key

great start can't wait to see the build and stock, And i strongly recommend the ATO like steelerfan said with that small of a system it will swing wildly through out the day. So what do you plan on keeping in this system?

Also are those brine shrimp hatcheries in the picture or phyto-culture? judging by the light I am assuming phyto-culture.

I plan on adding something. I'm in the fish room 3-4 times a day, and will start by topping with RO at first.

And are you still going to be acquiring more stuff because I see an upgrade in the near future;)
Probably. This is one of 10 tanks in the fish room, just the only one that will be reef. I may convert a larger freshwater display tank in the future. I am particularly drawn to the look down tanks.

I plan on looking into auto top off, not sure about stocking yet. Going to start with the easiest corals I can find from my LFS. Maybe one fish.

Brine shrimp and one was a phyto, I can't seem to get a live starter culture of the phyto locally.

very nice so far there are some good stickies in the reef chemistry forum. i'll see if I can find them.

Nice tank!! Welcome to R2R!! Can't wait to see how it comes along!

What type of rock is that? Looks good.

The
Understanding Reef Tank water Testing and Parameters

these are a couple nice ones I have found the first targets ph alone and the second link covers it all happy reefing
Thank you for these, I read the first three, and they were very helpful.

I placed the rock and the sand and some pre-mixed water in the tank last night. It was mostly clear. I didn't put the clarifying agent into the tank yet, I wanted to see if it would clear on its own. There are only Bio-balls in the filter, and I haven't hooked up the Koralia yet. I'll do that tonight and add the lights and take a photo for reference.

I was thinking of getting some live rock rubble from a local LFS, will that speed up the seeding of my dead rock?
Or will it be slow going no matter what?
