Newbie need coral help.

Hi guys, i have this coral and something is coming out of it as you can see in picture, its brown. What is it? I’ve not seen it before.

Going to need a better picture. looks like possibly Aiptasia but impossible to tell without a closer more in focus shot.. try turning down the blues and turn up the whites or use a flashlight.

It could just be getting rid of extra waste or expelling zooxanthellae. Have you changed your lighting recently?

Thanks for your response, no i have not changed it recently although my tank is only 5 week old.

if you poke the strings (with forceps or while wearing a glove) do they retract?

As i poked it, it detached and came away.

No i am not direct feeding it, should i be? Sorry if thats a stupid question, this is my first tank.

Im personally a believer in not direct feeding, I broadcast feed my tank 3 times a day with home made frozen and AB+ right before lights out. Coral growth has been great. I do try to hit my elegance a little a few times a week
