Hello, new to saltwater and haven’t had an aquarium in awhile period. 6 year old begged so I got a Nuvo Mini Fusion 40 gallon. Had someone come set it up and teach me a few things 4 days ago. It cleared up well and everything looked great. Today it started sounding much louder, and it was more of a water crashing sound not the pump. There also appears to be more sand back blowing into the tank from the pump heads. The sound is coming from the chamber where the pump head is and it’s basically loud sound of water pouring out into that chamber. I’m an idiot with this stuff, but it seems like before that chamber had more water in it so the sound was less and the flow was submerged. Now it’s like the water is coming out like I’m holding a hose in the air and it crashes to ground. Going someone can read my poor explanation and help!

I figured that out after I posted! Well I was wondering, so the answer is no I have not. Going to get some distilled water in the morning and replace. Should I turn it off until I replace it is it ok until the morning?

Don't let the level get too low or your pump will start sucking in air and could burn out.

And I’ve actually never done it, so the how question is I was just gonna pour it into the tank.

And the only water I have right now would be refrigerator filtered.
Don't use that. All that usually has is a charcoal filter, won't remove much. If you have a powerhead or wavemaker in the tank, let that run and turn off the return pump.

I do have a wavemaker. All I have is the wavemaker and then the pump with the 2 hoses pumping water into tank. So turn that off and let wavemaker run till morning?

You can pour it into the tank. But watch the back chamber because it will fill up slowly and you don’t want the back entirely full.

Edit: didn’t see your post about refrigerator water. Crabs is correct do not use that. RODI water only. Or distilled if that’s your only choice

That's what I would personally do. Turn off the return pump, let the wavemaker continue to run to keep the water moving. And pick up either distilled or RO water in the morning :)

I appreciate it! What is the best way to replace the water? I’ll Go get water in morning and make sure I have it on hand.

When you get your water, slowly add it to a high flow area of the tank. You said you currently have no livestock or anything in the tank correct?

Auto top off is the best option.

this is what I use for evaporating water!

Correct, nothing in the tank but rock

As @Redfoxtang mentioned above, I would look into adding an ATO (auto top off) what it does is replenishes evaporated water for you automatically with sensors or float switches.
As saltwater evaporates the water evaporates, but the salt stays, so make sure you're topping off with RO/DI or Distilled water and not saltwater, otherwise your salinity will skyrocket. And when you add in your freshwater tomorrow, double check salinity to make sure it's at the correct level.

Thank you, and I’ll look into the auto top off....that is looking like a great option at the moment. Thanks again for the assist
