The newbie is me. :xd:

I was thinking of starting my unproven, dangerous, experimental, not for beginners type aquariums.

Does anyone have a very large jar just setting around or about to be tossed? Like a minimum of 1 gallon but hopefully 2-5 gallons?

After all I just a beginner with limited resources who can't afford much.

Make sure you document this unproven, dangerous, experimental, not for beginners type aquarium for us all to see!

I have a one gallon pickle jar right here at my desk that I have used to transport salt water in.

I'll have to check I may have some of those but plastic. I think glass would be better.

I just ran across a second one in the garage if you need a sump!

When it comes to being a beginner we will make you a pro in no time. We all have been in this spot. Welcome aboard

If you end up buying a large jar of pickles, stick some wire in the ends and plug them in. Would make quite an Independence Day display. The large plastic jars can be found at Costco / Sam's filled with pretzels or cheesy poofs. It is not too late to enter your pickle jar in the Nano in 90 contest.

Hey cool. I can use comercial salts and the like for one and my really really unproven experimental dangerous things for the other.

I just wanted to thank JSB for his help.

I am now the proud possesor of a 1g tall and a 1g standard.

Which are both currently 'aging' in my garage.

I think you can use an air stone, and a shot glass and build a skimmer for those, and light them with the 1-bulb LED flashlights from Harbor Freight.

That all sounds way beyond this beginner's abilities.

Besides I have other uses for the shot glass.
