Initially purchased another’s up and running 2 year reef. It was a tank full of LiveRock so much that I had 100lbs to spare I placed in two totes with water from water changes in my garage. Last night noticed one had leaked and they were no longer submerged. Could of been for 2 weeks, could be only two days out of water.
The question I have is:
If I down the road wanted to add live rock that had been out of water to my tank will I create a toxic cycle? If I was to smash one of the uglier ones into rubble to use for a fuge I plan on adding, also a small cycle? Would the cycle kill all the fish ? Or would I be better off QTing live rock from LFS and then adding that? Thanks in advance guys

It seems the word “cure” gets generalized a lot. Are you saying You would bleach , clean, and then recycle all the rock in a seperate container/ tank? If I was going to add a smaller piece for something like a small island for evasive corals.... same deal?

NOO bleach sorry I needed to clarify. My way of curing live rock entails a barrel with enough new water to cover the rock well then a little power head . You can buy a little cheapy at Lowes or HD . test the water for nutrients & change the water every 2 weeks or so . After a while any thing dead will dissipate & You have nice clean rock for the tank . I also cover my barrel so it's dark so no algae will live .

So just re-cycle the rock for a month. Got ya! Thanks ! Are you saying HD for a cheap bucket, or HD for a cheaper power head? Seems to be many terms that have a broad meaning in this hobby but none as much as “cure”. Haha

For a power head A little pump for a real small fountain or such . It doesn't have to be big or anything . Just to move the water around .

Got ya. Thanks for the tip. To the original question though is that how the chemistry of it works? Would a possibility of a smaller cycle in the tank be a possibility

Your welcome . Let us know how it all works out . We would like to see the new tank !

Yes a small cycle is possible .. there will have been some die off .. and therefore a source of ammonia
