Newbie question

I got some new palys today. It seems to be shedding. Is this normal?
It may be excess mucus from transporting and acclimating them. Mine did the same thing. They started opening a few hours later.

with softies I would always run carbon. They can release chemicals to stop encroachment. They dont produce stinging tentacles so chemical warfare is their go to defense or offense.

with so many that look similar with a different name almost impossible to tell. They will also look different in our tanks.
They might be mohawks not 100% sure.. hope someone chimes in to confirm

Hope you can figure it out. Its always cool to have a name

Forget the names!! LOL!
It's a nice zoa.
Let it heal, give it proper light and good flow, not strong!
remove those algae from the plug. No need dip, just remove with tweezers.
Leave it alone and it will be good.
Thanks and i will remove the algae. I run 10k lights with blue actinic

For some reason this really thick haired GHA grows out of the tiny piece of live rock that my mini zoas were fragged on, and nowhere else in the tank. It will grow out between the heads it’s very annoying. Tweezers are definitely the way to go, but that is by far the most stressful part of my tank maintenance! I’m always so worried I will accidentally stab one of them...the minis are so small it would be like using a crane to take off your hat. (The picture is post-maintenance)

Nice zoas, i agree tweezing out algae is a pain. Sometimes keeps the zoas from opening

Thank you! Those are actually really hardy, I almost never see them closed during the day unless a hermit crab shell is poking them or something. I want to get a couple more colors and then just be patient and let them take over that rock.

You're welcome. I recently contacted Julian Sprung about my zoas and has confirmed that they are zoanthus sp. Nice to know that these aren't the highly toxic palythoa. My zoas do close sometimes if my emerald crab crawls on top of it just like your hermit. I too am waiting for my lfs to get better zoa colors. Really wanna get some mushrooms bc my tank is mostly zoa.
