Just got a Reefer 425XL with HD 26 lights. My 8-year-old has been fanatical about ocean life since he was two so I finally made the plunge for him and we have enjoyed getting it up an going. We added our first fish, the usual, two clowns and going to add some beginner coral and maybe another fish.

Two questions -- one I have noticed the post day (tank has been running two weeks with fish in 4 days ago and we have noticed constant small bubbles up from the sand. Normal? Something to fix?

Second question with the lights. I know there has been information about wi-fi connection issues which we had and had to remove and add again but seems to be fine now. However, when they where manual on-off(no IOS app) you hit the button and it progressively brightens up. Now with the app its one brightness, of course, you can adjust the color BUT you can also ONLY turn them off with the app. The actual buttons on the back of the lights seem to not work now connected via the app. Hard to believe a manual button can be overridden from an app. Faulty lights(hard to believe both would be faulty too however.

About your first question, most new tanks have air bubbles in the sand, it's no biggie. If you put the sand in before the water especially, because you have trapped air underneath the sand. If you want to get rid of it, just stirring it up works. When/if you get some snails, they will take care of that for you!

Thanks! we have a few hermits and when we get the next fish we will get some snails too!

With AI lights, the trick is NOT TO USE THE APP and simply go straight to the myai website via a laptop or desktop. I had all kinds of issues trying to set up my Hydra 26HDs with my phone, but after removing the app and programming it directly via the computer/website I haven't had any problems. It's also easier to setup and control a schedule via the computer. As mentioned the bubbles are normal and will eventually settle.

Thank you. That seems to be the way to go then. Do you have the website link? Searching only brings up the http://www.aquaillumination.com/ which only show a My AI app download. I must not be looking in the right place.

Air bubbles not healthy but common with new systems. Cleaning crew or goby will keep that gravel loose for you.
You can also use a plastic rod to run through gravel bed slowly not to disturb bacteria and release gases/bubbles

I have a 10 year old reefer. Mine is to blame as well. Take a look at Watchmen goby/pistol shrimp pairs. They move your sand around a lot. Fun to watch!
