Newbie- what filter should I buy?

Ok so I’ve decided to start my first saltwater tank with a 40 gallon breeder. I already have a fresh water tank and decided to rehome a few fish and turn it into saltwater.
I don’t know what filter to buy or what to buy to put inside of it. I think it has a fluval 50 on it right now.
I’d rather not use a skimmer or sump if that is possible. I saw a YouTube video by Mass aquatics I believe where he has a 40 g with no sump or skimmer.

I am going to order the following. Please let me know if I need to order anything else right now to get my tank started cycling.
What filter and media?
What brand Powerheads and how many
CaribSea Fuji pink sand
Dry rock 40 lbs off amazon
Refractometer
Instant ocean
I have a RO system (I think lol)
Dr Tim’s ammonia
Bottle of instant bacteria for tank (is it needed?)

If you want a nice HOB filter you can go with an aquaclear and an insert for it from InTank and you can also add a surface skimmer box to it from OceanBoxDesigns. There are so many things you can do. AquaMaxx also has some awesome HOB equipment.
