I'm new hear, and a new hobbyist. Looking forward to this new family in R2R. Many thanks!

I bought a dry rock to a local fish store yesterday. But it seems they gave me instead a liverock because it's still some green and black color in it. But they insist that its a dry rock. How do i know the difference between dry/live rock? I only know that dry rock is completely color white. Is this correct? Many thanks guys!

Usually they keep it in a tank full of water. If they keep it in a wet sack, it sounds like it is live rock when they order it but you have absolutely no way of knowing how long it has been in the sack. Im sure allot if the bacteria and life on it has probably died by the time you bought it and took it home.

Thanks for helping me guys. I hope can someone share some tips also for beginner like me.

I am new as well heads up these guys r awesome lol lots of info if u go back in the forums just hit search I have learned a ton in 2 days lol

Thanks guys for welcoming me here in R2R. Anyway, i have a 20g tank. However I've read that it's good that i've started at least 50 or 30 as a much more stable condition of a tank. But i have a limited space in my unit so 20g suits my space.

Thanks. Guys, question? I will set up may salt water tank today. Do i need to cure first my dry rock or directly put it in aquarium and cycle it? Many thanks!

You could do one of two things.

1) Drop the rocks into the tank and let it cycle with the tank.

2) Bleach/Acid wash the rocks and them drop them in the tank.

Either case, the rock will eventually be live again.
