I'm just set up my first salt water tank after wanting to do this since I was a teenager. I'm sure this has been asked but I'm looking for recommendations on beginner corals and figured I'd introduce myself in the process. My tank is a biocube 32. The tank is in the process of cycling. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I do plan on keeping fish as well. Thanks!

For beginner coral, you can't beat kenya tree, xenia, green star polyps, most leathers, or hardy zoas. As long as you understand some of these guys may be fast growing and might be best kept on "islands" so they don't overgrow the entire biocube, there's no greater feeling then watching your first kenya tree grow a half inch a day!

Thanks! I definitely like some of the zoas. I'll look up the Kenya tree. I'd like something that will wave in the water as well but I can always do that later on.

Kenya trees will absolutely wave in the water. Their only negative is that they grow so quickly and in larger tanks, they can actually "drop branches" and reproduce across tanks. As a first coral, they're easily the best and most fun. Best of all- if you find another nearby hobbyist, frags are almost always free or only a few dollars.
