If you were going to introduce a new clownfish to a tank that already has one in it how would it take you to figure out it's not going to work?

Will the clownfish attack the new clownfish instantly?

TIA

you should be fine, they will fight until the larger one becomes dominant, then turns into a female, then they will become a pair. Just make sure that they are the same species, or they could kill each other.

Is it a fact that different species will kill each other or is it a 50/50 shot?

Thanks

In my experience when it doesn't work out, it has been pretty instant and I take the clownfish out immediately.

If there is a little nipping some people will wait it out but the solo clowns I have paired that have done the best was when they instantly paired with no fighting.

I just personally don't like to see fish stressed so if there is a hint its not gonna work, I won't risk it.

If you mix a bw and oj clown, it's 50/50. If you mix a percula or ocellaris with a maroon, the percula is as good as dead 99% of the time.

I have a large black and white ocellaris who has been solo in my tank for 6 months and today I was given the opportunity to have a baby black ice 1". At first the B/W chased him for a few but now he could care less and comes over and checks him out here and there.

Do you think it's safe to say he wont kill him?
