HI all. Ive got some substrate bald spots in my tank due to flow blowing my special grade sand about.

Can anyone reccomend a larger size grain of sand which will blend in with special grade for the bald spots ?

Thank!

I use Tropic Eden Reef Flakes, which are 3.5mm. That may be a bit large to “blend” with your special grade. But they have a variety of sizes to choose from:

Aragasnow - 0.5mm
Tonga Special Pink - 0.8mm
Miniflakes - 2.0mm
Mesoflakes - 2.7mm
Reefflakes - 3.5mm
Reefflakes Grand Select - 4.5mm

Maybe the Mesoflakes would be better for you.

I’d try chopping up the flow a bit by putting some small rocks in the way or raising your PH up a bit. Fine sand “gets heavier” over time and the craters and sandstorms do go away; often by themselves.

If that’s a non-starter, I just added a ton of sand from Gulfliverock to thicken up some spots and refresh the bed. It blends perfectly with the finer sand and added some bio diversity.

My little sand sifting goby (2-3” maybe) has no issues with it.

Aweosme thanks everyone!

Just had a quick Google and I don't think tropic eden sand is available here in the UK....any other suggestions ?
