I have my aquarium set up for about three weeks now. It is 110 gallon tank. I have canister filter with no media in it other then just the blue filter screens with no media. Some say put the biomax in the bottom to build up good bacteria and say it is the same as bio balls in a sump. Conflicting answers on this. But my question is this I only have added 20lbs of cured live rock one piece has some good coraline and a few sponges on it, two clowns, snow flake eel that was a straggler in the live rock and few crabs for clean up. I know I have a long way to go with collecting enough live rock. I have been told not to set up my skimmer until I have all my live rock in and completed is this true or should I go ahead and set it up because it is an in sump or a hang on back cora 125? Do I go ahead with the skimmer or wait until I have collected up all my live rock. And keep in mind it is going to take me a while to collect up all my live rock seeing it is not so cheap around here but I am in no hurry to rush anything or get everything overnight. My next things are getting a sump or refugium and cpr overflow and keep collecting my live rock. Next question is a sump or refugium better or are they pretty much the same thing? This is a great site btw I enjoy all the great feedback and am learning quite a bit from some of you. So to skim or not to skim yet and biomax or no are my questions? All my levels are great and temp is steady 78.6 degrees. I will try to get a pic posted this afternoon. Also I have a piece of live rock in each corner on is a 9lb pice and the other is a 11lb piece. Should I put these in the middle of the tank or does it matter because I have my fluvial fx5 canister filter and 1500 gph power head circulating it pretty good. You can see a circular flow in the tank.
