Nicrew 150 watt Height and percentages

So I have a 29 gallon “reef” tank. Just started it a few months ago and bought the Nicrew 150 watt light. My question is for anyone who is using one, at white height did you set it at and what do your run your lights on. I currently lowered the height and lowered my blues, but just trying to get a general idea of what others may be doing. Thanks

Ok. This light is very powerful, especially for that size tank. If you are using the mounting arm, mount it as high as possible. The light has 5 blue and 5 white settings, if I am remembering correctly (correct me if I am wrong). I would start with blue and 2/5 and white 1 or 2/5 for now. I would not run the blue settings more than 50% power in any scenario for this size tank with the mounting arm.

I am running a Noopsyche, which 140 watts in a similar form factor (though I would venture a guess that the Noopsyche is pushing quite a bit more PAR than the Nicrew). I have it around 11-12” above the water line and have the blues at around 65%, white at 15%, and UV/Violet at 50%, and everything in my tank is super happy light-wise, it’s enough for higher light corals higher up on the rock work and not too much for lower light corals closer to the sandbed/on the sides.

Gotcha, I have not gone over 20% on blues at any time due to the power but wasn’t sure of height. I’ll raise it back up and leave it where it’s at. It is 5 settings on both blues and whites without the controller. I just lowered it trying to keep more light in the tank.

At 14” the Nicrew Hypereef 2 puck 150watt set with lowest white setting always gave me these pars.

all “ish” numbers as they flux while taking samples.

Higher white settings would increase those results of course but was not relevant to me, I just need a dash of white.

Putting it up slightly higher will give you more even coverage. If the options are increments of 20% and just the two channels, I would start at 40% blue and 20% white (the white is optional, personally I’m not a fan of blue-only lighting).

I’ve got GSP in probably 300 PAR, it can take quite a bit of light (though you’ll want to acclimate it, depending on what kind of lighting it was under).

The two puck version (100w) has about 120-150 par 25-30 inches away with 100% blue and 0 white. This measurement was from a frag tank, so none was being reflected back in.

I literally just hooked mine up a few hours ago. Same one, 150w. For me the arm won't work, I don't have enough room to move it back to center of my tank, so I hung it. It's about 12" above the tank (IM 20g Fusion Pro). I have a plethra of SPS and Zoa/Paly's, and a couple LPS. Previously I was using a 165w Will's "black box" to get the tank going, but found it worked quite well and my tank has done great. However I wanted to ability to control the dimming on a schedule, rather than manually adjusting, so I grabbed the Nicrew w/ controller (controller not here yet). I know this is gross overkill for this tank, but I have plans to upgrade within the year so this will light half the new tank.

I had run the 165w LED light at 100% blue and 25% white.
I'm currently running the Nicrew at 60% Blue and 20% White while the coral adjust and will go from there.

Unfortunately I don't have a par meter, but simply by appearance the settings I'm using are just a bit "softer" than the Will's one. Coral actually look more open too, I may have been blasting them a bit lol

I would say 40% or 60% blue, and 10% white to start and adjust as your tank responds.

I had mine on 20% white and 5% and I got algae. I mean tank is new so maybe just the ugly phase. It has calmed down once I went just blues.

Thank you for the response. I’ll raise it back up and start higher % I ordered the controller so I can adjust it better and have it on a schedule. I’m using a blue tooth timer now. It’s a great light for the price and I like the looks. It’s just hard to find what settings people use.

I would go for the 150 for the length of the 20 gallon long. You can always dial it down. I got the controller and it made a world of difference in control.

Yeah I didn’t want two plugs if I didn’t have too. Almost the same price overall for 150 as it is for 2x30
