Light spill is my only complaint with these lights, and is the reason why I built a canopy for my display tank. That stated, light spill is going to be an issue with pretty much any light source over an open topped tank.

Looks like this will be my new light. For a 6 foot 125 gallon with LPS and a few sps, would you get 2 150w or 3 100w, or 3 150w? Not sure which combo I should try.

I'd go 3 150w that's just me. I had two 150's and a 50w over a 4ft 120, and par at the sand was kinda meh.

How many braces?
2 braces best to use 3 lights.
Basically 3 tanks..

How wide? How deep? Too lazy to look if you posted this already.

Light placement is as important as power.
Ineffective placement can cut into available power.
As can your anticipated dimming of channels.

Ok for some reason Nicrew doesn't like the 150's over tanks narrower than 18".
To me it isn't " logical" since the light isn't wider only longer.
I'm not going to suggest any power levels since I'm not a " coral guy" just someone who dabbles in light in general.
That said I see no reason except $'s not to pick 3 150's over 3 100's.
Do you " need" 150s....??????
Please note you can't correctly measure par with that meter out of the water..

I honestly don't know if I need the 150s.... If the 100s would be fine, they would absolutely work and be cheaper.

We mostly have zoas, chalices, euphylia, and a few acro/birds nest/type sps.

Difference in 3 is about $100..

Nothing wrong with that.. So you use 3 currents?

Besides your " wants" what do you think is your " needs" for the switch?

Going from a 55w to a 100 or 150w light is quite a leap.
Now diode efficiency does come into play.
Point is double the wattage may not double the photons produced.
It's nigh near impossible to guess at that though.
Black box diodes are lucky to be 1/2 the efficiency of high end diodes. Fortunately they are lens-d to the max.
In a more geometry sense 9 pucks (even 6)
give more blanket coverage than 3.
Meaning less shadowing.

Oddly there is a 95w version of the Current puck. Even odder is there are no R24's at Currents Amazon " store" though they are for sale there but I digress.
$374 each..

Funny thing about those 95w lights. I was supposed to be sent 2 to test and review in addition to my 52w lights. Next thing I know the guy at current sending them is no longer employed there. So there's that.

As far as why I'm switching, I like these Current lights. They grow corals wonderfully. I use 4 on my 125. The only thing I don't care for is the colors they give off. The Nicrew lights seem to have a better spectrum that my wife and I both like.

Seems everyone using the Nicrew gets good results.

I'll end up selling the Current lights. They're in excellent shape.

Interesting.. The r24 has 4 channels but uses lime and only cool whites.
1:1 blue to royal blue in the blue channel.
2 violet and one " true red".

Nicrew has slightly more royal blue and violet than reg blue.
Also more " color" w warm whites and upped red and green.
Both are about 2:1 " blue" to "not blue".

Subtile spectrum differences but human eyesight is a mysterious thing.
I can understand that.

In that case, I would say three 100’s will do just fine.
Nothing in that list 3-100’s can handle.

Can easily give 200-300 surface par.

That would be the most you would need in any mixed tank.
12” down it falls to 125-175, 12” down to the bottom, 75-100, 50 in the corners.

My only complaint was the fan which comes on an off when needed, I can hear that if in the same room.

Also, would have been nice to provide more controls and a internal timer.

But light is light….it provides good broad spectrum lighting…will grow photosynthetic organisms well.

A very similar product is Visparspectra, which add a timer, a remote, but must be hung.

I had really thought about these too. Gonna have to shave some off the mounts for the trim either one I get. They should really start making mounts more widely accepted of plastic trim tanks lol

The not having to buy a separate controller is appealing on the Smatfarms. They're cheaper too for 3x 95w ones VS the Nicrew.

Decisions, decisions
