Niger Trigger and coral

I've noticed you plan on getting a lot of fish with the shark, the grouper, the vlamingi tang. What size tanks do you have? Don't put to much faith in these websites.
I was gonna upgrade next year to a 500g and wondering if it should be a fish only or reef.Because I like fish that should not be in reef tanks and when your dropping over 5000+ dollars on a tank I gotta make a good choices.

A 500 gallon will be a nice upgrade for sure and questions are good to ask. I would wait until you get the tank going before purchasing the fish though. It's hard to decide on fish because a lot of fish that I like will eat coral.

I’ve had this since it was the size of a silver dollar and loves hanging out on the toadstool never touch any corals. I also have a Picasso and a humu humu in the tank with him, also got them when babies.

I had one for about 8 months and had to get him out. He was fine for a while but as he got bigger, he got very aggressive. Chewed up my foxface’s tale and went after shrimp constantly. Had to trick it to catch him. He was super fast. But found him a good home with a lot more swimming room.

No way! Wow you are lucky! I wish I could have those types!

I've got a humu in my lagoon (40gal connected to my 300DD) and there are sps, lps, and softies in there with him. He hasn't touched a single polyp. Got him as a tiny juvenile and now he's still only about 2.5" but it's been about 10 months. I would put him in the display tank for sure, but I know he'd feast on the invertebrates.

I had a niger in my reef he never touched any corals, I currently have a bluejaw, Sargassum, and clown trigger and they all get along and don’t touch any corals. The Sargassum does on occasion get into a tussle with my tangs but it’s usually instigated by the tangs and only lasts for a minute or so.

From my experience Niger triggers have been fine with coral but they can and will decimate your shrimp population.

my buddy has a niger and I had one. neither of ours ever touched anything. this is why I ahte the reef safe ratings. some you can say yes 100% not reef safe but other is not any different than a human like say a hamburger and then some humans only like lettuce. its just based on the fish itself
