Niger trigger

Might be picking up a 3"-4" Niger Trigger today and wanted get some opinions on this fish. I've read a lot about this fish today an it seems to be pretty hardy. Anyone have any specific problems with a Niger?

Problems? No, unless you want to hear that they ate my CUC up pretty quickly. Other than that, he will run wuickly into the rocks when spooked, and hook himself in there, looks funny, but thats what they do. Very cool fish though.

One of my favorite triggerfish I had no problems with mine and he never bothered any inverts in my tank but I know most of them will lol I just got lucky I guess.

I had a small one that was totally opposite of how they are supposed to behave. He tormented all of my fish to the point that I had to take him back to the fish store. He completely left my inverts alone though. I agree, cool fish though.

Well he has mostly been hiding since I put him in QT...according to my girlfriend he came out yesterday and then the dog started barking at something outside and he has been hiding again. I just wanted to see him swimming around when I got home from work but that didn't happen lol. Hope that he comes out again today

Still hiding and doesn't come out when I feed so I hope he is eating

When mine was small it hid constantly. Then one day, it was much more bold and always out in the open. Mine is in a full reef, and has never bothered any inverts or other fish. He Is an aggressive eater though, and can scare some of the smaller/slower eaters. Great addition and gorgeous under actinics or LEDs.

I have never had one but always thought they were cool fish. However, keep in mind they have the reputation of other triggerfish. Which is being aggressive and eating inverts. If these arent issues I dont see any problems except for possible tank size over time.

I've had one for seven years. He's big and lives in and sps reef. Never bothers coral except for spitting gravel on it now and then. He used to chase my harlequin tusk around, till the tusk jumped and died. He wasn't a relentless chaser though. He never bothers inverts at all (crabs anyway). However, he does bite my hand every chance he gets and draws blood too! Great fish, with a great personality, even in a reef!

Well I only have two small corals(Candycane and Palythoa), two hermit crabs as of now and I don't plan on getting anymore coral for this tank. Also tank size won't be a problem form me because he is going into a 180 gallon. My big thing right now is getting him to eat

If you cat get a trigger to eat, there is something wrong. These guys are pigs and will eat anything. Mine likes nori a lot, any kind of frozen, but I mostly feed pellets.

Well he never comes out when I'm in the room so I don't know that he isn't eating I just never see him eat. He ate at the store before I bought him...I'll try some sea veggies on a clip so I'll definitely know if he eats

I added him to my display tank Friday night and he is much happier in there with my other fish...He is very social and active. I am very happy!!

I love triggers. I don't have much experience with Niger triggers but I have a male blue throat in my reef :smile:.
