Does anyone have Niger Triggerfish in with corals. I had one in reef many years ago that an angel, maybe I was lucky because list as not reef safe. I have been offered one free, 4'' but need to pick up tonight as they are moving in the morning. The one i has didn't bother my corals only ate few hermits. Anyone have one in reef? eating your corals?

I did for a while. Great fish until it got too big and began harassing smaller fish. Moved him to someone else's tank that was much bigger. Never touched a single coral, CUC was easy pickings though.

Cool, i'm not worried about CUC. I have 9yr snowflake eel and a blue headed wrasse. I restock peppermint shrimp, assorted crabs and snails

I would be more worried about it being a jerk to tankmates. Why is it free?

Yes it's free, she is moving and needs tank drained by noon tomorrow. I need to pick up tonight or by 10 am tomorrow or she is giving to pet store.

I'd grab it then. Most times people give triggers away, because they're biting everyone

They are pretty coral safe. They are not really invert or fish safe. They also eat a lot and not coral friendly with the waste that they will produce.

Some triggers will just chew up rock and corals to work their teeth down - nigers are not horrible that this.

There are reef safe triggers in the Xanthichthys genus:

I decided to pass, our other friend will take it he has FOWLR 240gal. I'm passing more because they can get decent size and i'm at a good load. Plus I have 2 Clowns and Carpet nem coming from Diver's Den tomorrow. Only adding small things now, maybe barnacle blenny, mandarin goby, firefish.... thought about it and I have 3 large growing angels, regal & majestic still small 4 & 5'' but my 8yr old Koran is 14" with top streamer. Tank 180gal total system 240gal.....um upgrade time soon.

I loved have the Niger Trigger, even though when I would put my hand in the tank he would bite it, even drawing blood. Gorgeous fish though, especially when they fully color up.

Aw man I was hoping to see a new trigger picture when I saw this was updated. Probably a good choice, good for you!! Does your friend with the fowlr come to R2R?? The Niger is my favorite fish :)

I don't know lol, need to ask him and find out what name he uses. I've only been on 2 months. I'm sure some of my local friends are on here. Not sure what screen names are used.
