Night creeper

I was creepin around the tank trying to get a look at my new Japanese snapping shrimp and caught it in the act of molting. Thought it was dying at first lol. Snapped a few (terrible) pics w red flashlight; just figured I'd share with the group

That's quite interesting to see. I have more than once thought my shrimp were dead seeing their molt. Seeing them molting would be equally scary! Thanks for posting.

Yeah those molts get me every time lol. When I first came up on it, it was lying on its side. I was oh no shrimps don't do that! Then it moved and I realized what was happening. The process only took maybe a minute and I think I got there right at the beginning. Once it got going it just kinda slid right off. Really interesting

I bet that was so interesting to watch happen. I’ve always wondered if after a molt, the shrimp have their absolute best colours (Similar to when snakes shed).

I think you're right about that because although the lights weren't good to see the pistol shrimp, whenever my Skunk Cleaner molts the colors always seems to pop more the next day
