OK guys. I may catch some flak for this but I really want to know. First off my tank is a 60 gal fowlr, 60 lbs live rock, two 3in chromis, one 1in chromis, one med. maroon clown, one med. yellow tang, two small damsels, and assorted clean up crew. I am currently running two emperor hob filters rated for 50gal each, and I have a powerhead pump for circulation. My question is about protein skimming. I have a reef octopus bh100f hob filter and I love the performance. It pulls out a lot of gunk. What I don't love is the noise and the microbubbles it produces. So I want to know how detrimental to my tank health it would be to run the skimmer only at night/while I'm at work. I know it will result in less actual skimming, but will it effect the skimmer cycling, general performance, etc. I'm relatively new to protein skimming so go easy on me.

I used to leave my skimmer off during night, usually from 8pm to 7am.
Nothing bad happened.

Maybe fish don't poop while asleep? :D
