Hi, so I was examining some néw corals after lights out last night with my iPhone flashlight and noticed some debris in the water column. There was a significant amount and I was concerned it was some weird algae so I turned down the flow and observed it was motile. The objects were brown/rust in color based on poor phone lighting and looked to be round in nature with a pin like protrusion. I’ve added 4 jars of @AlgaeBarn Ecopods over the last 2 months and surmised they were a type of copepod but they look similar to what pics of Daphnia magna looks like. I would guess these creatures were about 1.5 - 2.5 mm in size. They were numerous in quantity.

I’ll try to get a photo tonight but does anyone have any idea what I might be seeing? I

If these night vision incidents become frequent you may need to check with your family doctor for medical advice?, or you should consider thanking Algae Barn for seeding you reef with planktonic life. It sounds like you have a good population of sea life that is a good foundation for a healthy reef. :)

I’m not complaining, just trying to deduce what they may be. In my all too fallible memory, they seemed bigger than the Algaebarn pods.

Unfortunately I didn’t really see them in last nights investigation., but i did strat second guessing their size. It may very well have been one of the @AlgaeBarn species of pods that I was seeing.

They will grow if they don't get eaten. I'm always amazed to find micro fauna thriving in my reef.
