If the lens as a mechanical aperture ring and you have set your camera to control the aperture than the camera requires lens to be set at F32 (often that is the reason the aperture number on the lens is in a different color). If you want to use the manual aperture ring than you can’t use auto and you to use either Mode A (you choose the aperture the camera chooses the shutter speed - great way to control DOF), or you have to go to Mode M - Manual were you have to choose both but have to watch for right exposure

So, when I put everything in manual the camera shows F5.6 with the lense manual F ring is on F32, when I manually move the ring it starts flashing EE in both mode M & Mode A.
