I have a Nikon D7100. When I try to do a custom white balance, using a white sheet of paper on the lid to the aquarium, to off set the blues I get an error message. It says it can't process the data. If I get into a lit room and try a custom white balance it works fine.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like there is too much blue light for the white balance adjustment to overcome. Kind of like a Hanna Checker when there is too much phosphate (outside of range) and the meter can't overcome and read 300 ppm?

Try dialing down your blue lights, or did you try using the orange filter? Not sure how any of this actually works, I just have white guilt so I am trying to be helpful.

Bump for a better answer from our local pic teckies!

Thanks Kris!

I've set the white balance to the tank in the past, but I used a grey card rather than a sheet of white paper. I can't find my grey card for the life of me :/
