Nitrate emergency

Not too long ago I allowed my nitrates to spike.
I had a pretty steady maintenance routine...and a long-running battle with bryopsis. I tried Vibrant on the bryopsis and it worked amazingly well.
No more bryopsis!
However, I didn't realize just how effective the bryopsis was at removing nitrates...a massive nitrate increase ensued which I didn't catch until a lot of things turned south.
Several large water changes over a couple weeks, followed by vinegar dosing for maintenance.
Not to hard to get it back in line.

That makes sense I think because bryopsis is a macroalgae that we grow in the refugium to control phos/nitrate. But it isn't enough in my case. I think I spiked to around 30. I tried purigen and its down to 10. May be I should include it in my routine. But is there side effects? Sime of my brains are starving (or receding I should say)
