Hi Randy. I was wondering about adding nitrates and have a question. I have live rock that is curing and amonia and nitrite is done and still has 75 nitrates on a salifert kit. Could you add that water(like dosing) to your system to raise nitrates???? Just curious if it would work or not. thanks

Yes, that would work.

But if it is curing by the breakdown of dead organisms on the rock, then it will have other things too, such as elevated phosphate and organics.

ok tks Randy, i was just curious as it would be cheaper than buying nitrate additive and its always nice to find different ways of doing things. Test water for other levels and then you could save that water and run it with gfo to remove phos and carbon to remove impurities and have a clean nitrate additive.
