I know it will sound like a novice question but I really need help. Started my tank 2 weeks ago (16 gallon nano tank)with about 3 inches of the old water that my friend had for years.

Was going great with nitrate for a week but now im near 100ppm and i dont know why. Ammonia and nitrite are at 0 but my nitrate went up crazy. I have 2 perc clown, a bubble-tip anemone( yes i know im not supposed to have those for at least 6month but my local shop didnt told me before i bought it, even if he knew my tank was new), some corals a blenny, 8 ninja snail, 8 hermit crab, and 4 nasarius snail, a cleaning shrimp and a pistol shrimp.
Im not over feeding ( i feed once a day and not too much) and i gave some frozen mysis shrimp yesterday for everyone, only 2 nasarius snail got out of the sand..is it possible that the 2 other one i had died in the sand and they’re rising my nitrate? How do i find them and take them out?

Or is it that my chaeto algea in my decanter tank that is too old and is full of nitrate .

Im new to this. Doing my best to learn fast and not make my world im creating die.
Thx in advance,

P.s.: should i put algea management product from red sea in it to lower ot or does my tank is too young for that?

Do some water changes over the coming week. Match the new water with the tank (alk, salinity, temp). Do 50% and test after and the next day. If it has dropped and stayed lower you should be good to go for another 50% water change. If it comes back up to 100ppm then we can work on another solution.

Should i be worried about my aquarium cycling and a 50% water change ?

Two week old tank. Lots of inhabitants. No mention of water changes or any other export methods (protein skimmer).

You have a heavy bio load in a small tank. I would do a 3 gallon water change twice per week to get it down.

Is it not cycled yet?
The bacteria you want live in rock and sand not water

is this a high range or low range test? Did you mix 1ml of tank water with 15ml of RODI water? Please confirm.
I tested it with 3 different kit,
the one from red sea, result :over 75ppm doesnt go higher
tested with salifert, result: almost match the 100ppm color
And tested also with api, result: over 80ppm

The problem is i didnt use my friend live rock, since he had tons of aptaisia on it and a po4 problem, so i bought a ceramic rock for reef water tank.

You need to do water changes to bring down nitrates. Nothing else will work.
If that does not work then it might be your decanter tank. Was it clean and fresh when you started 2 weeks ago?
