I am looking to get hanna checkers for nitrate and phosphate. Right now I can only afford to get one, which one should I get first. My corals are starting to turn brown and I know my light is more than enough. I was thinking my nitrate or phosphates are high.

I would take a sample to a local store and have them test your water. From there buy whatever tester you need for the parameter that is off. If that’s not an option buy a cheap test kit just to identify what/if anything needs corrected.

Get both in something cheaper then upgrade in the future. If corals are declining you need to check both.

I would go with phosphate usually corals get brown when it’s high
But nitrate is also important get both if you can if not I will go with the phosphate

Hanna checkers are not required instrumentation. Get a sw master kit for $30, so you can monitor all of your parameters, until you can afford something else.
