Depends on the coral, but I would generally say anything over 20 is definitely too high.

Yes you are high, but I have read and seen systems with high nitrates like your run well. Have you tried spot feeding the hammer?

Yep that looks like Its bailing out , losing its head ..
how old is Your tank ?
How Many gal ?
If you did a 50% wc you could half Your nitrates .. that is in the short term .. long term need too find out why they are so high !

Not gonna lie it's new from the ground up. Acid washed cycled rock new sand and a piece of cycled Real Reef Rock and all acid washed equipment. Tanks been cycled with mb7 and seachem stability. Been doing this 10-12 years and knew better than to do a coral tank this fast. Figured why not many other do it with success lol... new test kit and my stupidity source water is 80ppm just checked. Picking up 10/20 gallons today and changing salt to tropic marin pro reef that I just picked up.

Any tips on doing a fast pace style tank like most do these days? I know the slow path but wife's impatient for coral lol.

Got 100 par on the sand, psk100h skimmer, aquaclear 50 with carbon/gfo mix, Jager heater, aquaclear 50 pump for circulation(soon tunze 6015) and massive water change +- 50% tonight to drop nitrates at least in half.

I’m my opinion , doing or attempting any fast pace style on a reef tank is asking for trouble unless you know what your doing .. patience is your best friend .. slow and steady the best path .. and most important stability.. first achieve that in your tank for a few weeks months .. just my 2 cents !
