Bio balls are very efficient , often creating nitrates faster than we can export them, so a build up usually happens. The question is what are you trying to keep?, how high are the nitrates? 5, 10 ,80, 100+ . If they are really high and you tried other means to lower your nitrates you can slowly take some bio balls out depending the size of your system as to how much and how often. you just don't want to remove all of them at once .

I was glad to see algae turf scrubbers listed on this. I recently built a diy scrubber and it's doing real well. Everything has grown and started coloring up nicely since the addition.

FWIW, vinegar is not diatomic, which means two atoms, like HCl, hydrochloric acid, which is a diatomic acid.

The acetic acid in vinegar is CH3CO2H, so would be termed an octatomic acid, if anyone used such a term, which they do not.

Also, the amount of water in vinegar or vodka is usually far less than daily evaporation and is no concern. The comment about resonance structures and water in the dose is not understandable or of any importance to users.
