Nitrates and NOPOX

@nano reef

Word of advice....BE CAREFUL with this stuff....if you have a non tank, I wouldn't even bother as wc's should take care of almost all your issue's

What is organic dosing? can I dose no pox if my po4 is in the low range and my nitrates are 28. I dont know how else to get them down? I dont have room for a fuge.

I was dosng mb7 alot like daily because I thought I had cyano but I am now thinking its diatoms or maybe just low flow spots because thats the areas its growing on and hard to get flow to.

The problem with having the diatoms (or whatever it is) its on my newer acryllic frag racks that are on the sand bed, sides and back of bowfront tank. Its killing off some of my zoas. I think the Mb7 was keeping nitrates lower dosing daily.

I dont dose it as often plus not sure if thats a smart way to keep nitrates down and how far you can go with that method.

It was happening in my other tank and coarline took over and all is well with the frag racks. Just cant get coarline to grow in this tank plus I need to lower nitrates anyway!

Sorry so long but just addressing some of the other issues! Maybe you can help me with that. Is it normal for diatoms to grow on new things in the tank especially in lower flow areas? I have been reading alot about it coming from silicates in the water too.

How can I address that without gfo or phosphate lowering resins. I dont want to try something new really because I just changed my gfo and I screwed up and didnt add enough and they went from 0.08 to 0.17 so now trying to get back down again! Corals arent so happy! Dont want to keep stressing them out!

I’d suggest reading this article on organic carbon dosing

Have you tried dosing everyother day?
I too have a 125G and I dose 2.5ml and my nitrates are at 8~10 and phosphates at .05 (I'm OK with that)...steady....
No But I started back to dosng MB7 and MB clean. I may stop the clean now though and go back to dosing the mb7 more. I have been doing a lot of research on diatoms because I have that now in my new frag tank. Also, knowing thats common in new tanks and seeing it first hand i am pretty sure thats what I am dealing with and not sure clean will help with that anyway.

Do you do anything else for nitrates and phosphates besides dosing MB7? I wouldnt think you could control nutrients that much with just mb7 and also didint know it helped with phosphates. Were they ever higher or have you just done that all along? Do you have a corals you feed as well as the fish? I feed 2x's a week with a reef roids type powder but made by Hikari!

My skimmer isnt being used either because I have to many rocks in my sump to fit its( only 10 gallon sump) and I am in a bad situation with to many corals coming in that I am trying to stall!

Such a long story but two ebay sellers and both very well known off Ebay as well ripped me off. One of them sent an order that wasnt supposed to ship and shipped all the wrong corals as well so now they owe me and like I said I got carried away with the auctions and when they unexpectedly sent all those corals it caused many problems! Shot my nitrates up for one thing and still trying to figure out my dosing now.

Between these two sellers its over 2k in corals and very scared I am going to loose them all or cause both my tanks to crash! I was hoping I could at least transfer my zoas, shrooms to my frag tank but my testers ones arent looking good!

Thanks for advice!

or there's always Randy's recipe's.....sorry Randy always seem to forget your stuff....nothing personals

I dont dose MB7. I dose everyother day NOPOX 2.5ml
Once a month, I dose 5ml Phosphate RX...
I feed once a week Hikari (probably same as yours) and flakes for the fish everyday....

Whats a non tank? Why dont you recommend? I used it once for short time and I got dinos so I am a little gun shy but I think I got a little impatient and dsoed to much because it wouldnt lower phosphates much so I might have overdosed it! Its been years but I remember it going very slowly them all of a sudden a big drop!

I just need to get my nitrates down and dont know what else to do. I already do 40 percent WC every two weeks! Once a week is just to much for me to handle! lol
