What is your feeding regiment? Are you feeding corals?

FWIW, I have a 90 and 40 system and only do main feedings twice a week. Some TheraA during the week in between feedings. I would cut back to at least every other day...IMHO.

Sounds like I may have to try every other day.
Hey thanks for Your input

You can feed everyday but limit the amount. They should consume food in 2-3 minutes and food should never hit bottom. Also you want to rinse frozen foods before adding to tank. Most all algae problems and high trates can be eliminated with proper feeding.

Cool thanks I'll do that

To get them down do a series of large 20-30%water changes 2-3 days apart until their down..like mike 007 said you can feed every day(I feed my tank 3 sometimes 4 X a day)just small amounts&macroalgae would definitely help.

That small a tank is easy to maintain those params. A 50% WC will knock your Numbes in half. And go to feeding every other day.

I know I'm going to create controversy, but nitrates at 20 ppm isn't a real big deal; I don't see any SPS in that tank. 10 ppm would be a good level for that tank. Why do people want to starve their fish? I feed my fish twice a day, every day. Once a week or so, three times, they act like they're starving sometimes. I'd be more concerned with the food I'm feeding. That San Francisco brand is poison in my opinion. Try switching to Hikari or some other brand with less free floating nutrients. Purposely grow some macro algae, get a larger clean up crew. I don't see a single member of a clean up crew in any of the photos. Do small water changes more often. I also see oil floating on top of the water. When you see that you need a water change. Turn off all your pumps and take a plastic cup and skim all that oil off - as many times as is necessary. A gallon every day or whatever is needed. Oil on top of the water is an indicator of a dirty tank.

I would remove the sponge from the powerhead. Maybe replace it with the small plastic one.

^^totally agree with Mike J^^ and I'll add that your tank is still very young, you have a very small amount of LR leaving less room for beneficial bacteria to grow. What is your water source?

Nitrates at 20ppm aren't a big deal if you get them down, nitrates are poison and IMO anything over 5ppm long term will poison fish/corals ......nobody said starve the fish, just cut down on the amount. Agreed a clean up crew would help.....IME it's tough to eliminate that film that forms on top without some sort of a surface skimmer....is it possible to add a sump/overflow box to your system? That would increase flow, skim the surface, allow you to add macro to the system & hide some of your equipment. It would be an initial investment but worth it in the long run

Do a water change twice a week with RO water ( RO/DI if possible )
Do this for 3 weeks then stop and see if the levels stabilize

As far as feeding try only feeding an amount that is consumed in no more than 5 minutes any more is overfeeding
