Nitrates finally climbing, po4 low.

Tank is 5 months old with 10 year old live rock. 65 gallons.

For the first 3-4 months, I had zero nutrients, feed heavy, skimmed low. It wouldn’t increase. Heavy bioload. I added a very large montipora colony and a lot of frags.

Finally my nutrients have gone up. I am sitting at 20+ nitrate (Red Sea) and low phosphate at barely .03 (salifert). No algae showing up.

I don’t have macro algae/refugium, I was planning on setting it up once my nutrients increased. Is my ratio correct? My nitrates seem to be going up, but my phosphates are very low. What do I do next? Should I add macro? Are my nutrient numbers right?

You can dose po4 which will in turn reduce your nitrates your nitrates are climbing above the safety zone depending on what corals your keeping. A big water change could help reduce the levels and carbon dosing I wouldn’t go over 25 nitrate personally 5 - 20 max in my opinion for nitrate.

Thanks. I was planning on doing some bigger water changes to get the nitrates down. I have softies, lps and the big monti that I dose 30ml of esv bionic daily (15 am and 15 pm)

where would you keep your po4 at?
