Morning all!

So I used live rock, live sand i'm at day 5 of cycling and have already seen a nitrates spike (yesterday) up to 20 so far. I haven't taken measurements yet today. But I don't see an algae bloom... is this ok or am I doing something wrong?

Salinity 1.026
Nitrate 20
Ammonia 0.1
Nitrite .1 so far
Alkalinity 8.4

Don't worry algae is sure to come! Lol

Do you run lights or no

an algae bloom isn't necessarily a required component of a cycle.....as acros said, it will come eventually :) your levels determine whether you've cycled or not

I would say a little algae would be important to have for a CUC....for fish, no algae is needed before adding.....

You won't necessarily see an algae bloom, but diatoms are normal in a new tank.

Any suggestions in a clean up crew should algae come up? I'm looking to create a peaceful tank so my thoughts were a Tuxedo Urchin, Electric Bleu :eg Hermit Crab and some Scarlett shrimp. Any other suggestions?

Hermit Crabs will eat anything, if there is no other food source around, corals will tend to be eaten.
