I thought my tank was done cycling. I started it with dry rock that was soaked in bleach for 3 weeks and then ro di and prime until no bleach smell was present and then dried with a fan for 1 week.
I added Bio Spira and ammonia then dosed stability until the 500ml bottle was done.
My tank processes ammonia fast. I think I overdosed ammonia on the initial dose,it processed what I dosed close to 4 ppm in 3or 4 days. the nitrites hung around off the charts for almost 2.5 weeks then dropped to zero over over two days. Nitrates are 40ppm.
I thought before I do my water change I would do the stress test. Dosed 2ppm of ammonia. It was processed in 24 hours however it’s been 2 days and the nitrites are still purple, purple that doesn’t match the colours on API. So I’m guessing it’s between 1-2ppm. (I know ditch API, I have red Sea nitrate phosphate cal,mag alk)
I have had my Fuge running since start up, protein skimmer is hauling out dark stinky Skimmate.
Tank specs are 120g, approx 180lb of rock, reef octopus classic 150 Int skimmer,
Ph 7.8, ammonia 0, nitrite 1-2ppm, nitrate 40ppm,
Is my tank ready for a big water change and moving my clown fish (completed Prazipro and 30 day cupramine) out of quarantine and into the display. I have 50 gallons of ro/di ready to be mixed
The Fuge is going through the uglies, the display has no lights on.
Also is the water I pull out okay to use in my coral qt tank which is waiting to be filled, I plan on taking a few pieces of live rock and using them in the coral/invert qt as well.
