I saw my alk rising the other day so I shut off my alk part of 2 part doser. It continues to read at 8.7 on 2 test kits plus trident. I usually run at 8.3-8.4. So I shut off my alk doser.
My alk still reads 8.7. Can a tank go 3 days and not use alk? But i am still dosing calcium and it is staying at 440.

Any thoughts? Should I dose a little to get it started again. All corals look fine.

Do you know how much alk in dKH per day you were dosing?

Calcium moves very slowly realtive to alkalinity, when underdosed or overdosed.

I was dosing 52 dkh alk per day

Cannot be true.

Do you mean 0.5 dKH per day?

I'm not asking about mL of alkalinity supplement, if that is what you mean.

Should I shut calcium off

If alk is not declining, calcium isn't either (unless you are adding alk some other way). I'd turn it off, but its not a big deal as it will only slowly rise.

This is like pulling teeth... lol

Can you tell me what that is in dKH per day? That's what I asked, and what anyone trying to help needs to know.

You didn't even bother telling me what product or aquarium volume, so even if you expected me to do the work for you, I cannot.

Sorry. I am using ESV. I dose 52ML of Alk and 44ML of Calcium normally daily to maintain 8.4 dkh of alk and 440 of calcium In 150 Gallons of water.

Assuming you mean the original B-ionic version, you are dosing only 0.7 dKH per day. That’s pretty low. It is also something worth knowing about your system.

The associated calcium drop us only about 5 ppm a day and would take quite a while to see that rising or falling with a calcium kit.

something might just have disturbed the calcification rate a bit, such as lower pH from closed windows, new lights or flow pattern, etc.

if nothing obvious changed, I’d just keep monitoring the alk and resume dosing when needed.
