No carbon media and reef is thriving

I'm curious to find out if there are reefers out there who never run carbon media and all corals are thriving. I have used carbon for awhile and I think they do more harm than good to corals.

I do not run carbon. Haven't for many years. I have two jugs of it in the garage but never put it in my tank. My corals are very happy for the most part. Where they are not happy it is not because of lack of Carbon.

IMHO, carbon is best used sporadically as needed. When I run carbon, it's in a TLF reactor, and I only run it for about two days before replacing the media (or taking it off line).

Low quality, high-dust carbons have been implicated in contributing to head and lateral line disease in sensitive fish (like tangs).

What is this carbon you speak of? I just do w/c, skimmer, powerhead, feed, = triving reefs.

No carbon here either. I used to run it but ran out about 1.5 years ago and stopped using it then. No affect on my reef or fish either way. So I figured it was one less reactor to run and one less thing to buy.

I don't use carbon anymore and haven't seen a difference. Actually when I changed out the old carbon for new, my corals started looking bad so I took it out.

If I don't use carbon for a day or more, my tank become cloudy. I believe for SPS, you need clean water for sure.

No carbon or any filtration other than live rock and occasionally turning on the skimmer. Just regular water changes and coral are doing great.

This is interesting as in the uk I have always been told to use carbon with the mix of soft corals with lps/sps it takes toxins and impurity's out of the water stopping chemical warfare ? keeps the water amazingly clear, maybe I will try it for a while to see the results,

I don't use carbon... I don't use a skimmer, I don't dose, no filter pads.... Just water changes every 10-14 with Tropic Marin Pro... And my cheato and I have a happy reef!

My alk could be a smidgen better(currently 6-7)
