I have a lps/softy tank and I was wondering what would happen if I didn’t do many water changes and didn’t dose anything. I was watching the reefbuilders video on the nano where he didn’t do a water change or dose I’m over 6 months. Obviously I know this would slow coral growth but I was wondering if it would be harmful to them as long as their are not swings in alk during water changes.

I wouldn't do it unless you have a method of removing nitrate and phosphate, running nice carbon, dosing alk calcium and mag, dosing trace elements, etc. It is so simply to do a water change on a tiny tank that it would end up being such a waste of time to dose all of those when you should be able to get away with just dosing alk and calcium with a once a week water change.

I’m just wondering if I missed a water change or had a lot of lps if the alk level got Low would hurt them.

The problem wouldn't be ther slow decline of ALK, they would get used to it(slow growth, etc). It would be the rapid rise when you eventually do a WC, that would cause them shock and possible death.

Stability is the key in a reef tank.

I agree with homer1475. Its the rapid swing upwards of alk that could kill them. Alk can't be raised all at once. Most recommend at most anywhere from 0.5 at a time to 1.2KH a day (unless you are using more than that a day, in which its ok but still best to spread out)
