IMG_7882.JPG IMG_7881.JPG So for about a week now I've been noticing this algae popping up and slowly taking over my rocks. I'm fairly new to reefkeeping so not the best with identifying. It is brown in color and grows on absolutely everything, one of my snails is even covered in it. Hard to get good photos but it flows around like a hair algae, just brown instead of green.

My money is on diatoms. I was having the same problem with my frag tank. They grow into weird strands?

Yeah its weird long strands everywhere, didn't know diatoms would grow like this but ill definitely look into it. If thats the case then I won't be as annoyed since I know eventually they will take care of themselves.

Diatoms are a dusty appearance easily seen on the glass

They do not grow into the appearance of short hair algaes

Thanks for that guide it is awesome, looks like it can also be that, Ive probably got multiple things going on at this point. Looks like I'm taking a trip to beef up my clean up crew though.
Thats what I told myself, looks like you have a few things going on there.
