Hello all,

I got some fish shipped 2 days ago. They looked very stressed and I was unsure if they would even make it. They are moving around and eating but still look rough. I added Methylene blue this morning before work. My melanarus wrasse looked fine. I come home and find a large ulcer of sorts on his gill. His fin is sticking out and not moving at all. He is still able to swim and not acting lethargic and still eating. Did the medicine burn him? Or is this because it is treating something? How did it grow so fast???? Again, this appeared in 8 hours. It was not there this morning. Methylene blue is the only medication in there. Can I mix anything with it? I have prazipro and metroplex on hand but can get some meds tomorrow if needed. I apologize for the picture quality. The water is very blue.

Here is a little more info on the area in case it helps. It is raised like a lump and the scales look like they've been pushed back against the grain. ( which may be because its raised, but I don't know). The fin next to it is completely immobile from what I see.
It appears whitish in color, but hard to tell in blue water.

Probably a bacterial infection resulting from some scraping during shipping.
Good job on adding the methylene blue. It's an old tried and true med for scrapes and injuries.
But the rapid onset of the infection is troubling. Do you have any Ruby Reef Rally on hand? Antibiotics?

He looked better before I added it lol I only have prazipro and metroplex on hand, but can get other meds tomorrow. My kanaplex dried and hardened on me. If they sell anything I can use at petsmart, they are close enough I can get it tonight.

Furan2 + Kanaplex + Metro is what we call the Trifecta and covers a very wide spectrum of both gram positive and gram negative bacterial infections.
Sulfaplex aka Triple Sulfa works really well.

Ok, sounds like a trip to my LFS is in order. Can all of these meds be added with the methyl blue?

Methylene Blue is best used in a bath for 60-90 minutes. It can be very tough on the bio-filter of a tank. Aerate heavily.

I'd probably run carbon and do a water change. Not a big fan of mixing different catagories of meds.
Then dose with the antibiotics.

Definitely do not mix MB with Erythromycin or Tetracycline.

Ok, thank you for the advice. I hope I can save him. Google is not as reliable as the plethora of knowledge on here.

Another question, my other wrasse finally emerged from hiding. Guess the methyl blue helped him a little. It has many flukes. Since I can't mix prazipro with the other meds, which issue should I treat 1st?

In addition to the trifecta. . . melafix will work greatly on what you have.
HOWEVER . . . . Do not create a medicine chest in the process. Fish should recover

A freshwater dip will remove many of the flukes - temporarily.

I have melafix and metro on hand. And I looked up furan2. Supposedly petsmart has that so I can get some tonight. We'll see what happens without the kanaplex at 1st since the LFS isn't that local lol

Thank you again! I've been too nervous to do a freshwater dip but apparently the fish are just drama queens.

FW dip does wonders

With very sick fish there is always the risk that they may not take the FW dip well. Reality is that if the fish can't handle the dip, it probably would not have survived any way.
