I have no live rock or any dead rocks in my aquarium... just live sand. I just have a fake rock scape from somebody that made it for me. Wondering if anybody has no rocks at all in their aquarium and seeing how y’all control your nitrates and ammonia...

Interesting... Rock is used for a filter. So are you using a sump with any live or dry rock? How are you filtering your tank, I'm curious. Post a pic?

Don’t have a sump, I got a small Nano 20g tank... I’m filtering by using siporax. I’m out of town and I have no pics of my tanks.... I’m just seeing how people filter their tanks without live rock and controlling their nitrates

we find that live rock tanks typically still need nitrate controls so you are good as long as no free ammonia registers. if anything, id have put siporax up against live rock anyway as the better denitrator. In the end, getting any sip or live rock to reduce nitrates in a system that would run say 20 ppm nitrates without them is very hard, and never consistent.

the majority of reefers must take action to remedy nitrate above any type of ceramic media or live media, they're typically using algae to uptake it and various dosers like nopox

smaller reefs like pico reefs only need full water changes to control all aspects of the water, we have it the easiest.
