My 10 gallon under my new halide 150w
DE52573B-4C96-4909-BCB4-9661EC2795C4.jpeg

Coloration of the corals has improved drastically since I switched from leds

Hey Kayden, the 10 gallon looks great! Glad to hear things are on the up and up. What LEDs were you using? What bulb are you running now?

I was using a wills led black box. It was 93 bucks on amazon and actually has a nice spectrum. I’m now using a Phoenix 14k 150w and have been since Tuesday. Everything has visibly improved or grown (besides a chalice).

You seem to be under the impression I'm attacking you. You don't need to defend your purchase. I look at G4 lights all the time, they are one of the worst culprits for disco ball. Terrible.

Watch BRS video on G4 disco, 19:12.
Hi, how many times do I need to tell you that I don't have Radions but instead use the Mitra LX7206 lights.

Morning everyone! I've noticed a bit of hostility in this thread as of recent, and ask that we please tone it down a little bit. Remember healthy debate is great! But personal attacks, hostility, and name calling are not. Lets keep it family friendly please :)

OK don't know the orig black box but if it was like this:
https://www.amazon.com/MarsAqua-Dim...=101&pf_rd_i=2975458011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

"RATED" at 165W would be lucky to get 2/3rds that in reality..
more likely 99W
so you more than likely increased output by 50%..for starters..

Point is:
Sometimes things are not as they seem.. ;)

Here is an old view with 2 250watt 14k Hamilton bulbs on it and a recent top down on my gaff bonsai and green highlighter coral.

Hey Corey, the tank looks great - what are the dimensions. I looks the rockscape too- the canyon is a great effect. Are those Lumenbrites?

Also, I can't see any supplementation - are you using anything?. I'm playing around with the idea of Hamilton 14k myself.... How did you like them compared to others you have used?

I replaced my Radiums this week after 10 months running the old ones. Everytime I crank on new Radiums I get mesmerized with how beautiful the light they put out is. Somthing about MH’s brings some sort of comfort to sps. The corals seem to be reaching out to the surface to feed on the light right away.

Tank is 48/48/24. Those are lumenbrites but I now have he lumenmax on here to get better spread from the bigger reflector. I don’t supplement anything right now as far as lights go. I’ve thought about it to lengthen my viewing time but I’m happy now with how things are so I don’t want to change anything. I like this bulb. I still prefer the radium over it but it’s a great bulb. I’m getting growth out of just about everything n the tank woh the 14k bulb, but maybe a little more pop would be nice from a 20k bulb. But I’d have no issue running these bulbs again or maybe even trying the Hamilton 20k.

I have tried many lighting setups. I am running MH, T5 combo right now. Am planning to add some LED as well soon. All will grow coral, but the 20k radium with T5, and some LED for pop is an awesome setup. You get the growth from MH T5, and the pop of LED. My tank is 140 gallons 7' x 24", and will be running about 1400 watts with all lights on.

I ran every light system I had available to me at the time I started in this industry, HO, VHO, HID, CFL, and just now playing around LED. I have to say the easiest light was the old 175 watt pendant from Hamilton, and the 150 watt Aqua Medic HID. Nothing easier than a wall timer and replacing the bulbs every year. I have already had a Kessil 360 WE die on me in less than a year. Not sure what to use on the new tank but I also have an Aquatic Life hybrid in the box ready to pair with my Aqua Medic or two Kessils.

I do think the LEDS are to complex for most if us and plug and play is better for the industry.

So good to see people enjoying the amazing results from metal halides and T5s after so many stones I've got here in the past years.
I'm sure this is only the beginning. Thanks all for sharing your results. Great halide pictures too.
Cheers.

Here are some top-down MH shots to start the weekend... with the MH glare and everything. My apologies for the horrible iPhone shots. No tricks. No editing.

Easy to tell corals are grown and colored amazingly. Like it. No tricks, just results.

Any idea what species that green and orange one is that’s below the bonsai? It’s beautiful.

That is ASD Rainbow Millepora... which should be called just ASD Orange Millepora. This one can look all kinds of different depending on intensity and light quality - no different than most millepora, actually.
