Oreo... he is talking about the ability of even distribution of those colorful diodes placed apart from each other...

Are you still trying to convince us with graphics? ;)
What about the evidences people are posting over and over?
Did you ever try halides?

It may appear distributed very evenly. It is just science that leds have holes in the spectrum.

Sorry did I misinterpret this??

Hey you said to each their own.. sooo.....

But I'm not going to support "bad science"..
Maybe they need to define what they mean by a hole..
WHAT in gosh's name make this EVENLY distributed??
Gets worse as one goes up in K..

Man, they are just graphic representation of what actually happen.

Evenly distributed..

Keep moving the goal posts.. it's cute..

This "smoothness" of MH's is just BS really...
doen't make them bad or good

.. JUST is..

you don't stare at a red pixel in your TV and say "it has holes" in the color...

Alright, keep your LED over your tank and the graphics coming then.
They are colorful and cute as well.
MH are the closest to what natural light on the reef is.
That is the main reason most LED companies try to compare their products to halides, my friend.
Sometimes I think you are just posting here, but actually have no aquarium at home.

you think that is close to daylight???
Daylight (10000K)(29 Oct 2012, Kushimoto)

Lets keep it real.. ;)
So the deeper the less red/uv.. still is "smooth"

I don't know why you actually think I don"t "like" Halides..
Has nothing to do w/ it really..
POINT is there are things that are real and things that are not real...;)

And your goal is? And your post above is based on? Most people (IMO ) on some misconceived notion keep their LEDS at some small percentage of maximum and you compare your results to that. LOL its all a folly. You have no more a clue than I or some other person does. No offense - but seriously - there is no evidence that MH do better (or worse) than LED - EXCEPT some people like the look better (frankly I prefer the look of MH light) - but I dont prefer the fixtures.

Right.. Show me where I EVER said anything bad about using them
. Everything was plain facts..
Let see I've said "comparing 100W of LED to 250W of metal halide (or greater )" is foolish
MH's spectrum is not "smooth"
"Holes" need to be defind.
current efficiency of MH's is about 100L/W whereas modern LED's are exceeding that by 50%
Have no love for high K/Blue LED fixtures...

Seriously I'm getting more "attacks" posting simple verifiable info...........
you are FREE to interpret it any way you like btw...

might as well add MH's are no more "sun like" than well designed LED's or well phosphor-ed "tubes"

If you read my past posts, that's what I'm trying to say.
The facts are that they are different sources and WILL indeed give you different results. No matter what graphics you can post here!!
Another fact is that many who left their LEDs and tried halides LIKED A LOT their halides BETTER, reporting better growth and coloration.
I choose to believe they are saying the truth. I also see that!
Everyone chooses what they like better.
If the results you have with your LED system pleases you and that's what you want, fine.
What if you try halides and like the differences? That's great too.

Seems like some here are still trying to diminish the halides just because they like their LEDs better.
Or they are desperately trying to defend their purchases.
Or maybe they don't like to see others reporting their experiences with halides.
Time to stop that nonsense!
The halide guys will come against that, naturally.
We all defend what we like.
We supposed to be friends, not enemies!

Y’all are going to get the dadgum thread shut down before I can get more advising by JDA lol
LOL! He will come... he will come...

IM curious. Reference your post above. Specifically:

I dont see any LED companies comparing their products ts to halides.
I dont see any evidence that MH (given the multiple K variations) are closest to a 'natural reef' - in fact - the last time I checked - (on a reef) the light slowly increases in intensity until perhaps noon or one and then drops. Last time I checked MH are the same all day long (*which is fine). But MH are not at all close to what happens on a reef in real life. They may be great (as I said - I like them) - but they are not as 'real' as you want to pretend (in my opinion)

Your opinion is one and mine different.
I deal with actual results over my systems.
Go try look what Dr. Sanjay said about spectrum blending in that video... That's what we are reffering to...
He actually referred as "color mixing" (@8:06).

Correct.

The thread, though, is about the polll - and original question. The poll however says 60% of those that used metal halides would not use them again.
Perhaps they are defending their purchases (perhaps you are as well?). IDK. The funny thing is you seem to say 'time to stop that nonsense' - but does that only mean the people that prefer LEDS should stop reporting their nonsense - or both sides? Because unless you have some information that I haven't seen yet - there is no evidence on either side (except personal preference) that either light source is better or worse - or am I missing something - fill me in (please)

They are the closest of all options because of the UV and IR.
Please do a search for the companies...

If thats true - why do 60% of the people in the poll *(the way its written) - say they wouldn't use MH again?
