I am dosing nopox for a second time. These are my observations. My first attempt a year ago resulted in a “white slimey substance” outbreak on rocks and in the sump that I suspect was a form of bacteria from too much nopox, too soon. This time I am going much slower with better results...so far. The tank is only about 4 months old with good live rock from my previous tank. I have a total water volume of around 170 gallons. I do a 40 gallon water change once a month. I’m also running carbon and GFO. A heavy bioload with 20 fish, mostly small fish, (Anthias/reef chromas/fairy wrasse, others in the same size range. Larger fish are a rabbit fish and a sail fin tang and a Kole tang.) I’m certain I feed on what would be considered the heavy side. A 4”x 4” nori sheet daily, small amount of flakes once daily from an auto feeder for the anthias, and frozen food in the evening, reefroids. I’m only dosing 3 ml of NOPOX daily, that’s far less than is recommended. My nitrates are consistently running around 5. I have a small amount of the “white slimey stuff” showing in my return chamber in the sump that I assume is due to the nopox. (I don’t know that for a fact.) I’m going very slow after the major slime outbreak on my first nopox attempt a couple of years ago. So far so good this time. I am hopeful that my nitrates stay in check this time and I’m hopeful that it is a result of the nopox.
