Hey guys, I wanted to see if anyone knows what is wrong with my two digi's (ROAB & Forest Fire). I purchased these frags a few weeks ago, and no matter what I do, I can't get them to extend their polyps. I have other digi's that have beautiful extension, so I can't figure out why these 2 don't. My parameters are all in check (alk-9, cal-420, mag-1350, phospates-0, nitrates-0). I am stumped and need some serious help....thanks in advance.

Where are the corals placed in the tank, with relation to the light and what kind of flow are they getting? I have mine high and getting blasted and they are really happy.

I think you should have some nitrates. Maybe the tank they came from had nitrates. They should be having some polyp extension by now.

imo if your tank was on point then they would have polyp extension even if u threw them in the sand. test kits double check them, have someone alse test it to compare. if u used kent carbon u might have rust in the water. post some pics so people can have a better idea

I've had them high and low (flow and light), but nothing changes. My other digi's are low and look awesome

I probably do have some nitrates, but I am using an API tester, so it's probably not accurate.

My tank should be on point....all other corals are happy, except for one milli that has zero polyp extension as well. I've been running BRS carbon to keep my water clear, but that shouldn't affect 3 random coral. Here are some pics for u to compare....they were quick shots, so the color is bad.

Here is the good digi with polyp extension....

No here are the 2 bad ones with no extension...

Corals are like that. I get insane polyp extension in my tank on my acros but my montis hardly have any polyps no matter where I put them. Only time I got good polyp extension on montis was when I ran a 40g breeder attached to my main system as a frag tank and lit it with leds and had virtually no flow in the tank. So really around 350 par and virtually no flow. Same water ran through the frag tank as the system only flow and lighting was different so I wouldnt think its a chemistry issue so much as a lighting issue.

If my tank was too clean, wouldn't all my coral have no extension? Why would 3 random pieces have no extension and the others be fine?

stir your sump with a power head and see if they try to open. I bet they would

What would stirring my sump do to make them open? Could u give me a little more detail so I can understand what u mean?

Some nitrate in your sump. Or you can dose oyster feast and AQuavitro fuel at the same time. And wait to see them open up.

I have saved a few acros from completly bleached to color up with oyster and fuel. I dose twice a day until they completely recover. No polyp extension is the first sign to bleaching.

Would Elos Omega and Pro Skimmer do the same thing? I only ask because I already have them, but haven't started using them yet. I also heard overfeeding your corals can lead to algae blooms

Were the coral dipped before entering the display tank? Or maybe you have something nipping at these new coral?

I'd tend to agree that if something was off about your water quality you'd probably see all the coral being affected. It seems like something is bothering them specifically and with them being new it seems likely that only these two are affected (if there's even anything wrong with them).

Can you shed some more light on your system and habits? A tank shot would be nice to see too.

Both digi's were part of a frag pack I purchased a few weeks ago.....All the others frags in the pack are doing great. The milli that has no extension was purchased from a friend....in his frag tank, he had awesome PE. All of the frags mentioned never had PE once they got into my tank. I haven't seen any fish picking at them either. I am stumped

If all the SPS are new in the tank then its going to be harder to nail down if this is specific to those coral or if all of them will be affected even if some now seem to be doing well.

How old is the tank and what size? Lights? Any fish? What do you feed?

Here also is a thread that may relate: https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/ge...89012-my-green-slimer-went-pics-acropora.html

If you feel that your tank is healthy with the exception of these few frags I would actually probably do nothing other than perhaps water change and moving the frags to see if they like a diff spot. Running Poly Filter may help also as some sort of catch all problem just in case it is something like copper.

Re-test your nitrate and phosphate with pro test kit like by red sea. If they are all zero, your tank is too clean. Dosing would help.

You said that earlier and I asked if using Elos' Omega and Pro Skimmer would work just as good as Oyster and Roti Feast?
