watching this amphipod pick up pieces of sand and move them. has dug out a little rut along the baffle in the refugium

My old 20 gallon has been sitting empty next to my sump forever; decided to connect it to the sump with a simple U tube and...physics.. added another 15 gallons or so to volume at no cost. Why not :) Gives me a little area to do testing, dosing, etc. May even do wc's from it... 1 inch pipe lets me crank up return flow with no issues (I run it low anyway to be fair). Water levels the same as the sump so no added volume (as far as the sump is concerned) when power cuts out, no overflows :)

The aiptasia I was watching (first one I've seen in the tank) seems to have disappeared or is not coming out today. I don't think I have anything that would readily dine on a aip so not sure what's going on yet... :thinking-face:

Well at the time I had trochus dropping left and right and now, the more I've learned I think that might have been dinos doing them in and maybe I unfairly judged the hermits...maybe :)

Yeah my skunk cleaner is doing great. Just molted last night. I've heard similar about the hawk fish but also almost equally the same with people saying they're model citizens so I took a gamble; has been the latter so far
It could have been your hawkfish, I have noticed that if I put snails in tank with day lights on the hawkfish perches close and if I walk away I come back to a pile of empty snail shells. Lost like 20 dollars worth of trochus snails in 1 evening...

Oh no. Ate like a king tho that night :) lol

The snails came and went before the hawkfish arrived and so far it's been a model citizen...so far. Spazzy lil fish tho lol

Did a 10 gal wc last week and removed my socks to wash them all and did not replace them. Been running sockless all week. Moved cup on skimmer for a more wet skim. Alk at 9.5 with noticeable growth. Nitrates have gone from a steady 25 to 5-10 and Phosphate from 0.2 to 0.03. Thought they'd be higher. Idk if I'll go back to socks until I need to remove particulate matter on occasion.

I think the higher alk has driven growth into gear and thus growth has really soaked up some nutrients.

Going to feed heavy today

Your flame hawk gets along with your cleaner?
Funny you say that; just yesterday I watched the cleaner pick stuff off the face of the hawk for a half a minute until it turned around and swam away. So I'd say yup, both are model citizens. I know I've read they will go after cleaners but I just chuckle when I read those posts. Fwiw my cleaner is big (molts regularly) and was in the tank before the hawk...

Caught my cleaner shrimp cleaning my watchman.

Wish I either had a better (phone) camera or knew how to use mine better. Fwiw it looked way better before uploading...
