No Raffles at Reefapalooza?

I just read that there will be no raffles at California Reefapalooza. Is this true?

I've been to expos ten years ago where I won a raffle for an antique doll.

Can't comment on California, but in New Jersey you need to first file with the State. Once the State license is issued, then file with the local municipality for permits, and finally, pay taxes on fair market value of items raffled. Give yourself six months to be on the safe side. Is this being done.......who knows???

Yet there has been raffles at all the other Reefapaloozas here. This must be the latest quack job government deal to protect us from ourselves. Never mind the smash and grabs, never mind the porch pirates, never mind the street take overs, never mind the looting, never mind the all the other real problems, just ruin the fun and come save me from myself.
I primarily go to reefapalooza to see the latest in gear and enter raffles. I book two nights at the hotel (even though I live near by). Had I known they were going to pull this I would not have bothered.
California, destroying businesses by a thousand cuts!

Ya I hear the same story here in Ohio yet they tax property owners to support the schools after they ruled it unconstitutional in the supreme court in 1997. Sorry rant over not being political just stating facts
