No Sale as it could be Rare

Do LFS really think that they own a coin shop? It’s irritating and frustrating how things have become nowadays. The new thing being refusing sale as the coral can be rare. LOL

Second time this happened to me this month in different LFS wend choosing discosomas from the coral tray with prices advertised.

It's been discussed that stores should be keeping certain pieces for grow out because of the Indo ban. Maybe they see that piece as one that will be easy to propogate and have a high dollar value.

Ive had local fish stores say the peice isnt for sale to me. only to sell it a week later. Ive had them size me up thinking i cant afford it or something. Had this happen to me more then once.

I guess Jeans and a t shirt means im poor right ?

Had them say a coral isnt for sale as its on hold.. and 2 weeks later its still on hold . When i pull the cash out they suddenly will sell iy.

Bought a green bubble coral the eize of a basketball for 200$ which is a steal that size they are easily worth 500+$. But it on hold for weeks.. I pulled my cash out said id buy it right now. They sold it ti me... and when i applied my 20% discount i was saving.. they were like.. oh youre using it on this... LOL hell yea i am.. saved another 40$

Lol. I dress down when I’m off work to. Spend 70-90 hours a week in my clown clothes. Weekend comes I’m usually in a cut off t shirt, shorts, and dirty sneakers. It’s just comfortable working around the house and yard.

Get the same looks and comments from people. People are so quick to be judgmental.

But I’d rather be sized up as less than important then go in looking rich. Usually keeps people from asking if you need help. Gives me time to look around and think on things.

Had this happen in a Jewelry store once too.. the uppitty guy working there tried to basically shoo me out thinking i couldnt afford this custom ringed i wanted made.. really ticks me off.

I too wear dirty shoes.. Sometimes ill wear sneakers until the rubber bottoms completetly wear out and since i work on cars my shoes always get scuffed scratched dirty ect.. If they get uncomfortable sure ill buy new ones lol.. but i never cared for having 30 sneakers or fancy clothing.

Id rather spend the money on my hobbies or going having fun.

I mean i dont dress like a complete bum.. but you csn tell my jeans are old as the color is washed outa them lol.. ill wear em until they rip... I do wear casual shirts usually button up shirts.. but mostly nice t shirts.. I guess people with fashion minds will think im weird.. but i they are weird lol

I have seen stores refuse to sell also.......in that case the coral should be in the back in a grow out tank and not out in the "for sale" tanks.

2 of the 3 LFSs I frequent almost always have high end corals on display that aren't for sale.
Definitely annoying but I'm ok with it as long as they're clearly marked as such.
Sometimes pieces that are NFS get sold anyway when someone makes an offer they can't refuse.

I usually stroll around my LFS in a tuxedo, wearing a monocle, and a canvas bag with a $ printed on it over my shoulder. I've never had a problem.

Intuition makes me think the customer's words has the potential to influence the sale.

Like if I walk into a store and start talking to the LFS employee about how "underpriced" a certain coral is, how awesome it looks, and how much money they are losing at that price, I am pretty dang sure they might rethink selling it.

However, If I walk in and just observe the corals, find one that I think is a super deal, and just casually and quietly request an employee to "get that one" for me, what are they going to say? It's a 2 way street. The less words I say, the less opportunity the LFS has to misjudge, confuse or rethink the sale.

I asked to buy a baby tiger conch the other day and they quoted it for $35. I think because no one else in the store knew what it was or asked about it. If they get a rare request they just jack up the price because they know you're willing to pay more for it as a customer asking for a very specific coral or fish.

I didn't buy it but I'm still thinking about how sweet it would be to have a .5" tiger conch.

The sad part was there was another guy in there who just got a 200 gallon tank with sharks in it from his neighbor. He was talking about how the filtration wasn't even working for the first 5 days and he didn't realize it at all. He was trying to figure out how to reduce ammonia, and trying to buy a puffer fish. I hope they didn't sell it to him. I told him to buy seachem prime but don't think he was listening.

That’s what I normally do, sometimes need to look less aware of reefing also and pretend am a newby.

I’ll have the red ting, my missus likes red stuff (pointing out to the red jawbreaker on the 20$ rack) if I say that’s a cool jawbreaker, I know for a fact the price going to be jacked up straight away.

Nothing wrong with that and aquaculture should be supported. Unfortunately that’s not the case most of the times. Many shops around me dnt have displayed prices for the sole reason that they want to ask different prices to different ppl. I’ve noticed that I get way better prices wend shopping around in my builder clothes than Sunday suit in this particular shops
