I know we're already into the month of November, but I got to thinking with the whole No Shave November that maybe some people would try a No Skim November challenge to see what impact it actually has on your tank. I'd be interested in seeing the results for sure! It would definitely be something I'd suggest you plan to track/log difference in params for. What'd ya think? Fun idea? Crazy?

Could be a good experiment depending on a tanks import/export ratio. For the 75, it was fed way to much to even think about but my wife's nano ran with no skimmer ever, 5 gallons a week changed was sufficient.

Having had a full cup of skimmate overflow back into the tank more than once with no observable negative effects along with no measurable effects to nitrates/phosphates, I dont think much would happen.

I agree. There's at least one member who always dumps his skimmate back into the tank. He's been doing that for at least 2 years with no ill effects. The only thing I'd worry about shutting it off completely would be the lack of degassing, but that would depend on the system. There are plenty of people who don't use skimmers at all.

Howdy,

I’m interested but what do we win? ;Woot

What would you think would be used as bench markers? Water chemistry would be the only thing that could quantified in a month time I could think of.
