Montipora eating nudibranch? What do you think?

In my experience just about any dip will kill them(or at least make them let go as you baste them). Lately i use potassium chloride for my sps and it seems to do great(though it does cloud the water a bit making it a bit harder to inspect in the dip).

The key though is no dip that i know of kills eggs so it takes multiple treatments a few days apart to have a good chance of eradication. I believe newly laid eggs hatch within 2-3 days generally so you cant just dip once a week which is why i do every three days for at least four treatments.

I have personally had sixline, yellow wrasse, and red coris appear to eat them or their eggs and i think can be good option in general, but i think it is hard for a purely predator solution to eradicate an already present infestation.

I just ordered some lab grade KCl for this purpose. What concentration do you dip it at?

i threw away the frag that I saw was infected with adults last night.

I currently have a copperband butterflyfish that I have seen picking at my montis lately. I am hoping this is providing some natural predation.

I plan to add additional predators: Melanarus wrasse, mystery wrasse, leopard wrasse. (At least two of the three). Unless you have other wrasses you reccomend.

Lastly I plan to try and move the montis I can onto magnetic frag plugs so that I can dip them more easily. I have a few large colonies of encrusting montis that would be very difficult to dip.

Are there any other dips you would reccomend that I use. I am currently only using coral Rx.

I had them some time ago. I forget what wrasses were in the tank at the time but I did not see any nudis in the display. I put some monti in a frag tank and bam, where the heck did these come from.
Revive, Coral RX , Bayer and some other dip I bought did not kill the adults. I left An adult in Bayer at recommended dose whatever it was overnight and the nudi was still alive in the morning
So yea, wrasses and blast the corals at with a turkey and hopefully the fish will eat them. Look with a flashlight at night when they come out to feed.
It might be less painful to set up a qt tank, frag what ya can, remove what ya can, treat the frags and start over. That’s what I did after months on trying to eradicate. I had large colonies and had to do a reset on the tank
Good luck, as they are the worst pest IMO

Right now two of my large encrusting montis function as the mortar that holds most of my scape together. I guess I could kalk paste both colonies …. If I had to

Kalk would kill them. Can you drain the tank below the encrusting colonies. Peroxide or fresh water would kill them as well and not have to worry about kalk slurry blowing around.

I am very curious. When you get the potassium chloride if you could take a bottle cap of dip. Drop an adult nudi in and see if the KCI kills it, that would be fantastic.

No they are at the very bottom of the tank, and I have riterri anemones up top that would not handle the stress of being left exposed for a while.

Bayer didn't kill them? That's crazy I thought it did? I've never had any nudis to see it on but I was hoping it was a kill all....

The best reef mortar! Good luck im sure you will get them it sounds like you have a plan

Manual remopval is best and most effective and remove asap and for next 14 days assure there is no presence of eggs which are tiny

Would That basically require removing any and all food sources for 14 days minimum?
Not food sources as they primarily feed on slime and tissoe of the coral

But basically all montipora sources out of the tank and starve existing out and give the eggs time to hatch and starve the hatchlings out too?
Yes. This is what eggs look like:

Yea Bayer was a no go on these guys. Bayer was the boner some time back. Now it’s seems KCI is taking over. I am curious about it since I have never used it. Revive has been my dip of choice as it mixes up clear and I can see exactly what comes off the coral. I will dig around and see if I can find the info I had on the nudis

I had them some years back, and Bayer definitely worked for me… 25mls per 1 cup of tank water for 15 mins. I think I dipped all montis every 4-5 days for a few weeks. Worked like a charm.

It’s obviously a moot point in this situation, since you can’t pull out your colonies to dip, but I figured I’d share my experience.

I am running behind on this thread so maybe this gets covered later.

KCl is an awesome dip for ACROPORA eating flatworms. The best IMO, hands down. Never lost a stick with that dip. 1 tablespoon per gallon tank water.

But I did NOT find it effective for MENS. I also found that my montis DID NOT like that dip.

I cannot speak with conviction about predation. These guys often stay under the eaves until lights out. I feel like any of the wrasses would opportunistically chomp on them. Heck, mine will destroy brittle stars, bristle worms, anything.
