So this always comes up and everyone has a different opinion on it so I though I'd show a few examples of them.

First is a straight compression of the same zoa(under pure blue led) with "automatic whitebalace". On the right Is a yellow gel filter infront of the camera lens with the same "automatic whitebalance"

And the same colony under blues with a custom white balance created in camera:

Next up we have some SunnyD zoa fraged from the same colony, kept on the same frag rack. Both taken under blues
First picture is taken with custom white balance created in camera:

Second is taken with "automatic white balance" but this time with a yellow gel filter in front of the lens(excuse the GHA, tank was neglected while it was being broken down):

I finally gave up, shoot in RAW, and adjust in Lightroom. Still haven't mastered that but at least I'm getting close.

Unfortunately if you shoot purely under blue you won't be able to completely correct it in lightroom. This was a major factor in making the move to a yellow gel filter.

Blue is relative, as we know. So depending on the frequency of the blue, you may need a slightly different filter.(Orange, amber yellow red) Works on reefs, works on cameras. Roscoe and tiffen color swatches generally have the frequency in nm right on the swatch.:D

Pulled that one out on a tv show recently doing blue screen. Blew them away. Thank goodness I got a fish tank eh?
